Greenwood Residence

Menlo Park, CA

A young couple with a growing family came to us wanting to add on to their small house.  By locating a second story addition to the back of property and articulating the building with stepping forms of plaster and cedar siding this unabashedly modern building fits nicely into its neighborhood of single story ranch style homes.  The introduction of a library loft overlooking the living / dining space and an emphasis on the connection of the indoors and outdoors makes the house feel much bigger than its square footage.  The house features solar panels and an innovative passive cooling system that involves operable skylights that not only cool the house without the need of air conditioning but flood the spaces with natural light.
